Transition Towns or Bright Green Cities?

I was introduced to Transition Towns in Seattle recently. This is a very thought provoking article on this green initiative.

Transition Towns or Bright Green Cities?

My biggest agreements with the author are these:

1) transition town theory spends WAY TOO MUCH TIME talking about small measures to a global problem. Talking about growing tomatoes in your front yard or learning to knit is not the answer to global environmental and economic changes.

2) Whether we like it or not, businesses run the world and we need to partner with business to manage this pending crisis. Think about it America: We go to war — no crisis. We have terrorist attacks (by both citizens and non citizens) no crisis. Wall Street falters and we have a deep banking crisis. We as citizens need to learn to talk to and work with companies if we are going to avoid a “Mad Max” world in the future.
